Who We Are

Tessa Weatherford

Equine Professional Tessa Weatherford

What is your role at Ava Recovery? What does that look like day to day?

My role at Ava Recovery is Equine Professional. My day to day at work includes: having equine assisted therapy sessions with clients, horse care and training, cleaning the pasture and barn, scheduling vet and farrier appointments, ordering supplies and leading orientation and equine education groups.

What is your background?

I have been around horses since I was 5 and have spent the majority of my life working with them. I have been a barn manager as well as a horseback riding instructor. I worked at Ava as a technician for a year before switching to being on the equine team.

Why do you love working at Ava Recovery?

I love working at Ava because of the immense care everyone shows for each other. Not only does all of the staff care so deeply for the clients but also for each other. It is a very personal and intimate environment that provides deep and long lasting connections.

Why do you love working in this industry?

I love working in this industry because I am able to connect and create positive experiences for people struggling with addiction. I have known and lost many people in my life that have struggled with addiction and this industry gives me the ability to share my experiences and help those that are still fighting.

What are you most passionate about professionally? Personally?

My biggest passion in my field of work is to provide people with the magical connection that comes with creating a relationship with a horse. I love to help facilitate a bond between a person and horse that can change the way they view themselves, others and all relationships. Personally, my biggest passion is creating connections with as many people and animals as possible. I love to spend my time with my pets and friends, as well as meeting new ones.
